November has arrived according to the calendar, however it seems Mother Nature only sort of agrees. It has been a very rainy, mild Autumn here. Despite the rather dismal weather it has not altered our harvest, or quality of apples, it has just made for some soggy harvest days. We would like to see it cool off just a bit though, so we can begin the harvest of our last variety of apples – The Northern Spy, in fact we would love to finally see a frost occur. The Northern Spy Apple sweetens after a frost, therefore we like to leave it ripening on the tree until that time. We hope to begin harvesting this apple in a week or so.
Currently available at Garside’s Farm is our Gloster Apples – these are a terrific eating and cooking apple. It is a crisp, semi-sweet beautiful looking apple. One of our favorites for looks and overall taste, as well as its versatility. We still have our Spartan, Boskoop, Jonagold and Bramley Apples available.
