The heritage that started it; the mission that keeps it growing.
Garside’s Farm started with just a dream of someday owning a small farm in the Fraser Valley to grow unique varieties of apples, fruits, vegetables and nuts. In 1976, Gary and Dorothy Garside moved from Vancouver to Bradner to pursue this dream. They had purchased a 12-acre property with a small house and pasture area. Immediately they began planning and planting the farm with specifically chosen varieties of Heritage apples that were picked for their ability to thrive in the wet climate of the Fraser Valley.
Over the years other varieties of fruits were planted – several varieties of pears, plums, cherry trees, and a hazelnut grove. During the 1980’s, a barn, greenhouse, and a larger house was built on the property.
From 2004 to 2009, Garside’s Farm were vendors at the Abbotsford Farm and Country Market, where we met many new long term customers. This was a terrific experience for us at Garside’s Farm to meet with many people in the community and other growers in Abbotsford.
In 2005, Gary and Dorothy’s son and daughter in law – Richard and Shauna Garside have taken over the majority of farm operations, sales, marketing and are working to maintain the farm and its original intent, but with hopes to diversify the use of the land.
As we look towards the future for Garside’s Farm we hope to host events, add more unique products, all while focusing on the core ideals of our boutique farm: providing quality, organic, unique fruits and vegetables.
